Abuja, NigeriaβOctober 22, 2026βWith the 2027 general elections less than three months away, the Nigeria Police Force has commenced the training of 10,000 officers nationwide on election security management.
The five-day program, organized in collaboration with the Nigeria Police Trust Fund, was formally declared open on Thursday at the Nigeria Police Resource Centre in Jabi, Abuja.
The first phase draws officers from 18 states and the Federal Capital Territory, with sessions focused on election security management, crowd control, conflict prevention, rules of engagement, human rights, intelligence gathering, and lawful response to election-related incidents.
IGPβs Strong Charge on Neutrality
Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Rilwan Disu charged the personnel to remain neutral, professional, and accountable throughout the electoral process.
He stressed that security remains the foundation of any credible election and that officers must protect voters, electoral officials, and the process without fear or favor.
Disu warned that any officer who compromises the neutrality of the Force would be held accountable. He directed police commands to strengthen intelligence gathering, operational planning, and inter-agency coordination, especially in areas affected by terrorism, banditry, kidnapping, and communal violence.
The IGP also issued a clear warning against political violence, voter intimidation, ballot-box snatching, vote-buying, and other electoral offences, stating that offenders would be arrested and prosecuted.
He announced that a dedicated 24-hour complaints line would be made available for the public to report any misconduct by personnel on election duty.

Executive Secretary of the Nigeria Police Trust Fund, Alhaji Mohammed Sheidu, reaffirmed the Fundβs commitment to supporting police preparedness through training, equipment, and mobility. He said the initiative aims to produce disciplined, impartial, and responsive officers.
