Monye Backs Adebayo: Reject All Rubber-Stamp Lawmakers, Rein in Errant INEC
Lagos, Nigeria—October 22, 2026—Entrepreneur, civic activist and social media influencer Morris Monye has thrown his weight behind a sharp call by Social Democratic Party (SDP) presidential candidate Prince Adewole Adebayo for Nigerians to ensure that no current member of the National Assembly returns in the next election.
In a post shared on X on Thursday, Monye described the National Assembly as a “rubber stamp” institution and accused the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of misbehaving without accountability.
“If I had my way, no member of the rubber stamp National Assembly will return. INEC is misbehaving, and no one is calling them to order. Very disgraceful really,” Monye wrote, quoting Adebayo’s statement: “The duty that Nigerians have is to make sure that no member of the National Assembly returns.”
Context of Growing Discontent
The remarks come amid rising public criticism of both the legislature and the electoral body ahead of the 2027 general elections. Monye, a former Director of mobilization of the Obidient Movement and founder of fintech firm Mo Credits Limited, has been vocal in recent days about INEC’s alleged failure to publish the voter register within the required timeframe.
Prince Adewole Adebayo, popularly known by the campaign hashtag #ADEquate for Nigeria, made the original comments in a video interview.
The SDP candidate has positioned himself as an advocate for electoral integrity and institutional accountability.
Call for Voter Action
Monye’s endorsement amplifies the message that citizens must take responsibility at the polls. By labelling the National Assembly a rubber-stamp body, both men are pointing to what they see as the legislature’s perceived failure to provide effective checks on the executive.
The post has drawn significant engagement, reflecting ongoing frustration among segments of the Nigerian public over governance and electoral processes.
As political activities intensify toward 2027, voices like Monye’s and Adebayo’s continue to push for greater citizen vigilance and institutional reform.
This report is based on Morris Monye’s X post of October 22, 2026, and related public statements.
