Sowore Accuses ARISE TV of False Report on Court Hearing with DSS
Abuja, NigeriaβOctober 27, 2026βOmoyele Sowore, the 2027 presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), has dismissed an ARISE News report on his ongoing court case as completely false and a disgraceful distortion of what transpired at the Federal High Court in Abuja.
In a statement posted on his X account on Tuesday, Sowore said the report, which claimed his lawyer admitted unfamiliarity with a provision of the Evidence Act, misrepresented a witness who deliberately restricted her testimony to the specific purpose for which she was called.
Allegations Against DSS and Media
Sowore alleged that the story emanated from the Department of State Services (DSS) in an attempt to cover up what he described as their βembarrassing outingβ in court.
He specifically named DSS Director-General Tosin Ajayi, stating that sponsored reports cannot shield him from ultimate disgrace.
According to Sowore, the real issue during the hearing was that the judge had to remind the DSS lawyer, A.T. Kehinde, SANβwho repeatedly emphasized his 40 years and two months of experience at the Barβthat anyone seeking to oppose or set aside a subpoena must do so by way of a motion on notice.
βThat was the real issue in court today, not the misleading narrative being circulated to divert attention from what transpired,β Sowore said.
Broader Context of the Trial
The case stems from allegations that Sowore cyberbullied President Bola Tinubu by describing him as a βcriminal.β The DSS is prosecuting the matter.
Sowore has repeatedly described the trial as politically motivated persecution aimed at preventing him from embarking on a nationwide campaign for the 2027 election.
He insisted that attempts to suspend the trial would not force him to retreat or abandon the struggle.
βThis trial is only one chapter in a much wider liberation struggle for the soul of Nigeria. We are not fighting merely to win a court case; we are fighting to dismantle the machinery of repression, impunity, and injustice that has held Nigerians hostage for decades,β he declared, ending with the hashtag #RevolutionNow.
ARISE News had reported that a member of Soworeβs legal team, Treasure Adefisoye, admitted during cross-examination that she was unfamiliar with Section 83(3) of the Evidence Act while the defence sought to tender media reports.
The court reserved ruling on a DSS objection to a subpoena seeking to compel the agencyβs lead counsel to testify as a defence witness.
Sowore maintains the narrative is a deliberate misrepresentation designed to distract from the prosecutionβs procedural shortcomings.
This report is based on Omoyele Soworeβs statement on X and related coverage of the Federal High Court proceedings on October 27, 2026
