Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma has warned All Progressives Congress leaders against complacency ahead of the 2027 general election, declaring that the party has no excuse not to win.

Uzodimma, who chairs the Progressive Governors’ Forum and serves as secretary of the APC Presidential Campaign Council, spoke on Wednesday in Abuja at the inauguration of the campaign council at the Presidential Villa.

He told party leaders that the election scheduled for 16 January 2027 would serve as a referendum not only on President Bola Tinubu but on every APC official and candidate.

“Mr President will be on the ballot on 16 January 2027, but if we are honest with ourselves, so will we,” he said. “This election is as much a referendum on every APC official present here as it is on the Presidency, and I include myself in that without reservation.”

The governor stressed that the verdict of voters would be shaped largely by what they had seen of their governors, local government chairmen, and legislators over the past three years.

He cautioned that controlling every tier of government could easily lead to comfort and a mistaken belief that the size of the party’s structure equalled the depth of its support.

“A party that controls every tier of government can easily grow comfortable and begin to mistake the size of its structure for the depth of its support. But as critical as structures are, it is citizens who vote, and each one of them has to be persuaded,” Uzodimma said.

He insisted the APC had no excuse for failure if its leaders remained united, committed and focused. Victory, he said, was guaranteed only when the party worked as one focused team.

Uzodimma also called for an end to internal disagreements and residual bitterness from the primaries. He urged candidates and supporters to reconcile differences, rally behind all party flag bearers, and speak to Nigerians with one voice and one message.

In a direct appeal to the President, the governor asked Tinubu to concentrate on governance and leave the heavy lifting of the campaign to the council and party structures.

He noted that the reforms already underway needed the President’s full attention to deliver their promised results.

Uzodimma further disclosed that he would himself be on the ballot as a senatorial candidate in 2027, underscoring that the challenge of re-electing the President was also the challenge of re-electing every APC candidate.

The inauguration of the campaign council marks a formal step in the APC’s preparations for the presidential contest.

With Uzodimma’s warning against complacency, the ruling party has been put on notice that structures alone will not deliver victory—performance, unity, and grassroots persuasion will.
