Abuja, September 5, 2026 — As the Peoples Democratic Party marks 28 years since its founding, the opposition party has declared itself experienced and ready to rally genuine opposition forces against the All Progressives Congress, insisting it can help end what it calls the sufferings inflicted by APC “maladministration.”

The message was delivered through the party’s official publication, The Umbrella Newsletter (Vol. 2, No. 35), released on September 5 and promoted on its official X account.

The edition features bold headlines asserting that the PDP is prepared to galvanize other opposition parties and present Nigerians with a credible alternative ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Experience as a Political Asset

National Chairman Kabiru Tanimu Turaki is quoted affirming that the party’s journey since August 31, 1998, has equipped it to lead.

“Our party will triumph,” the newsletter declares on its cover pages, framing the PDP’s longevity as a strength rather than a burden after years of internal challenges and electoral setbacks.

Publicity Secretary Comrade Ini Ememobong reinforces the point, stating that the 2027 G-100 process will give Nigerians a credible alternative.

The newsletter positions the PDP as a natural anchor for any serious effort to unseat the ruling party.

Joining the G-100 Opposition Coalition

The publication highlights the party’s formal endorsement of the G-100 initiative—a grouping of opposition stakeholders seeking to build an all-opposition political front.

The PDP’s Interim National Working Committee has already participated in the first meeting of the G-100 held on August 31, 2026.

According to Turaki, the party’s involvement rests on clear principles: transparency, equality, data-driven decisions, and egalitarianism.

“Any result birthed by a process midwifed by these virtues will certainly offer Nigerians a credible leadership capable of alleviating the skyrocketing poverty and rising insecurity in the country,” he said.

Salihu Lukman, a key figure associated with the broader opposition conversation, is also cited as pushing for a “Government of National Competence” as the ultimate goal of the coalition effort.

Sharp Critique of the Tinubu Presidency

A prominent commentary in the newsletter labels President Bola Tinubu “the travelling president.”

It notes that since his inauguration on May 29, 2023, the president has undertaken extensive foreign trips across Europe, Africa, the Middle East, Asia and the Americas.

By late August 2026, one three-week European trip was described as his 52nd foreign journey, after he had already spent approximately 261 days outside the country.

While acknowledging the value of presidential diplomacy, the piece questions the balance between international engagements and domestic governance challenges facing ordinary Nigerians.

The PDP’s latest messaging comes at a time when several opposition parties and figures are exploring ways to present a more unified challenge to the APC in 2027. Economic hardship, insecurity, and public discontent have fueled calls for opposition cooperation.

The G-100 process is one of the more structured attempts to coordinate that effort, with discussions around a single presidential candidate framework and a possible four-year transition government of national competence.
