Abuja/Lagos – July 25, 2026 — Nigeria’s leading opposition figure, Peter Obi, has once again put his personal resources behind grassroots healthcare, donating ₦10 million to the Catholic Maternity Hospital Amunaya in Ogoja, Cross River State, to boost maternal and child health services.

The gesture has triggered sharp political commentary, with social media commentator Sadiq Maunde claiming that Obi’s cumulative healthcare donations in 2026 alone already exceed the total funds released by the Bola Tinubu administration to the Federal Ministry of Health.

Maunde made the comparison shortly after the donation became public. “Peter Obi donated ₦10 million today again to a maternity hospital. The money Peter Obi spent this year alone on healthcare is far more than what Tinubu released to the Ministry of Health,” he stated.
