“I Killed Her to Teach Her a Lesson” — Ogun Journalist’s Alleged Killer Confesses

Abeokuta, Ogun State — In a chilling case that has sent ripples of shock through Ogun State and Nigeria’s media community, police have swiftly arrested three young suspects in the brutal murder of retired broadcaster Olakitan “Kitan” Oyesiku and her security guard, Pelumi Adetayo.

The victims were discovered dead on June 21, 2026, at Oyesiku’s residence in the Owode-Egba area of Abeokuta.

Oyesiku, a respected former staff member of Ogun State Television (OGTV), was found in a pool of blood in her living room, while Adetayo, 38, lay lifeless in the security post.

Her Lexus RX 330 SUV was missing from the premises, heightening initial fears of a robbery gone wrong.

Ogun State Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, addressed journalists on June 25 at the command headquarters in Eleweran, Abeokuta, detailing a rapid, multi-layered investigation that combined forensic breakthroughs, technical tracking, and old-fashioned intelligence work.

The principal suspect, Sodeinde Olajuwon Philip, 22 — a former security guard employed by the late broadcaster — confessed to orchestrating the attack “to teach her a lesson” over unresolved grievances from his time working for her.

Philip was arrested on June 24 at a construction site in Ibara GRA, Abeokuta, where he had been working as a labourer.

His confessional statement led detectives to his two accomplices: Sakirudeen Abdulraheem Ayoola, 27, a security guard, and Sobu Obafunsho, 36, a bricklayer.

All three have been linked to the crime through evidence and statements.

According to police, the suspects first overpowered and killed Adetayo to gain access to the main house, then attacked Oyesiku.

They allegedly used a broken hammer, cutlass, plank, and other items recovered at the scene.

A handwritten note left behind provided critical forensic leads that helped crack the case.

The stolen Lexus RX 330 was recovered through technical tracking, further tightening the noose around the suspects.

Olakitan Oyesiku was remembered by colleagues and friends as a dedicated broadcaster who served the public through OGTV for years. Her sudden, violent death has prompted tributes and calls for stronger security, especially for retirees and vulnerable citizens.

Friends have urged the state government to support the family and ensure justice is served swiftly.
