Abuja, Nigeriaβ€”October 27, 2026β€”The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has announced a further extension of its Special Passport Intervention Exercise in the United Kingdom. The extended phase will now run from Tuesday, 3 November to Friday, 27 November 2026.

The decision follows a directive from the Honourable Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, and is driven by sustained demand as well as the need to accommodate more Nigerians requiring passport services.

Background of the Intervention

The Special Passport Intervention Exercise was launched to ease the challenges faced by Nigerians in the UK seeking to obtain or renew their international passports. Dedicated teams were deployed to multiple centres across the United Kingdom to process applications more efficiently.

Recent updates from the NIS show strong participation. On 26 October 2026 alone, 497 applicants were enrolled across four centres: Aberdeen (88), Cardiff (98), London (112) and Manchester (199). Cumulative enrollment has reached 15,605 applicants, with passport production and dispatch continuing without interruption.

Purpose of the Extension

Officials noted that the high volume of applications necessitated the additional window. The service emphasized that the exercise remains calm and orderly and that the production of previously enrolled passports is progressing steadily.

Nigerians in the UK who still need to renew or obtain passports are encouraged to take advantage of the extended period.

Details on application procedures, required documents, and centre locations are available through official NIS channels and the Nigerian High Commission or Consulates in the United Kingdom.

The Ministry of Interior and the Nigeria Immigration Service continue to prioritize improved passport delivery for the Nigerian diaspora as part of broader efforts to enhance consular services and citizen convenience abroad.

This report is based on the official public announcement by the Nigeria Immigration Service on October 27, 2026.
