Maiduguri, Nigeriaβ€”October 12, 2026β€”The Air Component of the Joint Task Force (North East) Operation Hadin Kai has delivered a major blow to Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters, neutralising more than 40 terrorists, including a prominent commander, in a precision air strike carried out on 10 October 2026.

According to a statement issued by Captain Mohammed Goni, Military Information Officer at Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East) Operation Hadin Kai, the intelligence-driven operation targeted a terrorist enclave at Badu Village, south of Gudumbali in the Guzamala Local Government Area of Borno State.

Credible reports had indicated a concentration of ISWAP fighters preparing to launch coordinated attacks on troops operating in Sector 3.

Acting on the information, the Air Component conducted targeted aerial surveillance, identified terrorist movements around suspected hideouts and logistics facilities, and executed a precision strike on a building occupied by the fighters.

Significant Casualties and Asset Destruction

Preliminary human intelligence and battle damage assessment confirmed that over 40 terrorists were neutralized in the strike.

Among those killed was a prominent ISWAP Qaid (commander). The operation also destroyed two vehicles and approximately 20 motorcycles used by the group for mobility, logistics, and offensive operations.

Further intelligence revealed that the fighters belonged to ISWAP’s Murabitun elementβ€”a specialized mobile fighting unit responsible for conducting patrols, coordinating attacks, and sustaining terrorist activities in the general area.

The destruction of the enclave and associated operational assets represents a significant setback to the group’s capacity to launch attacks and maintain its presence in the Lake Chad region. Further assessment is ongoing to determine the full extent of the damage.

Sustained Momentum Against Insurgency

The successful operation underscores the effectiveness of intelligence-led, technology-enabled, and coordinated air operations in dismantling terrorist networks, disrupting hostile activities, and denying criminal elements freedom of action.

It also demonstrates the sustained operational momentum of troops under Operation Hadin Kai in degrading terrorist capabilities and strengthening security across the North East.

The Joint Task Force North East reaffirmed its resolve to sustain relentless, coordinated air and ground operations to eliminate terrorist threats, protect vulnerable communities, and consolidate efforts towards restoring lasting peace and stability in the region.

This latest success comes amid continued military pressure on ISWAP and Boko Haram remnants in Borno and surrounding states, following recent engagements that have also inflicted heavy casualties on the groups.
