Washington—The White House on Friday celebrated what it called a clear turnaround for small businesses, declaring that lower taxes, rising wages, and pro-growth policies are fueling a surge on Main Street under President Donald Trump.

In a post featuring the president at a podium, the official account stated that small businesses are “BACK” after what it described as years of neglect, pointing to tax relief and regulatory changes as the drivers of renewed hiring, investment, and expansion.

Tax Relief Takes Center Stage

The administration’s signature Working Families Tax Cuts package, enacted in 2025, remains the centerpiece of the claim.

The law made permanent the 20 percent small-business deduction, restored full expensing for equipment and facility upgrades, and delivered average savings estimated at roughly $7,000 for more than 12 million small-business owners, according to White House and Treasury figures.

Business owners quoted in White House materials have described tangible benefits. Jenna Aronowitz, owner of 1920 Tavern in Roswell, Georgia, said the tax savings are “helping reinvigorate the American dream for small businesses like mine.”

Geoff Larson of Alaskan Brewing Company in Juneau credited the deduction provisions with providing the “financial footing” needed to continue innovating in a remote location. Similar feedback has come from operators in Minnesota and other states.

Lending, Regulation, and Optimism Metrics

Beyond taxes, officials highlight record capital access through the Small Business Administration. In FY25 the agency guaranteed $45 billion in 7(a) and 504 loans to more than 85,000 firms—the highest volume on record—as part of more than $100 billion in total capital support.

A deregulation push has reportedly cut more than $110 billion in compliance costs for small firms in the first year.

SBA Administrator Kelly Loeffler and White House communications have repeatedly noted that small-business optimism remains above its long-term historical average.

Manufacturing has posted consecutive months of expansion, and private-sector job growth has been emphasized by Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, who cited more than one million private jobs added since early 2025 alongside a smaller federal workforce.

Independent Surveys Offer a Nuanced Picture

Outside surveys paint a picture of resilience mixed with ongoing challenges. An October 2026 Small Business & Entrepreneurship Council poll found 81 percent of owners meeting or exceeding financial expectations and 61 percent reporting improved performance compared with 2025.

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s Q3 Small Business Index rose to 70.5, with 71 percent of respondents rating their own business health as good and 72 percent comfortable with cash flow. Many still plan to increase revenue, investment, or staffing.

Inflation, however, continues to rank as the top concern for more than half of owners in recent Chamber data. Access to capital also remains a constraint for a significant share of firms.

Some critics have raised questions about proposed changes to SBA size standards that could expand eligibility for larger companies, arguing the shift risks diverting resources from traditional Main Street operators.

Political Context and Outlook

The White House post explicitly contrasts the current environment with the previous administration, a message that resonates with many owners who credit tax and regulatory relief for improved conditions.

Others caution that cost pressures and uneven recovery across regions and industries mean the rebound is not uniform.

Small businesses employ nearly half the private workforce and generate a large share of new jobs.

Whether the reported gains in confidence, lending and investment translate into broader, sustained wage growth and business formation will be closely watched in the months ahead.

The administration maintains that its combination of permanent tax relief, lighter regulation, and focus on domestic investment is restoring the foundation of the American economy.

Independent data suggest many owners are experiencing stronger results even as they navigate persistent challenges.
