Makinde, Wife Bag Aare and Yeye Asoludero Titles of Ibarapaland in Eruwa Ceremony
Eruwa, Oyo State—September 5, 2026—In a colorful traditional ceremony steeped in culture and community pride, Oyo State Governor Engr. Seyi Abiodun Makinde and his wife, Engr. Tamunominini Makinde was installed as the Aare Asoludero and Yeye Aare Asoludero of Ibarapaland on Saturday.
The prestigious titles were conferred by His Royal Majesty, Oba Samuel Adebayo Adegbola (Ajobo Olurin I), the Eleruwa of Eruwa, at the newly renovated and expanded Eleruwa Palace in Eruwa, Ibarapa East Local Government Area.
The event doubled as the grand finale of the monarch’s first coronation anniversary celebrations and the official commissioning of the magnificent palace complex.
A Proud Moment for Ibarapaland
Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly and a proud son of Ibarapaland, Rt. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin, was among the distinguished guests.
In a heartfelt post shared after the event, Ogundoyin described the occasion as “historic and deeply significant.”
“As a proud son of Ibarapaland, I warmly congratulate Their Excellencies on this well-deserved honour. It is a fitting recognition of their service, leadership and commitment to the growth and development of Oyo State and, particularly, Ibarapaland,” the Speaker wrote.
He also praised the transformation taking place across the zones and congratulated the Eleruwa and the people of Eruwa on the palace renovation, calling it “a worthy addition to the rich cultural heritage and traditional institution of our land.”
The ceremony attracted traditional rulers, government officials, community leaders, and other dignitaries who gathered to celebrate both the monarch’s milestone and the recognition of the governor and his wife.
Makinde’s Response and Assurances
Governor Makinde expressed deep appreciation to the Eleruwa and the people of Ibarapaland for the honor, describing it as his first chieftaincy title accepted in Oyo State and particularly meaningful because his political journey began in the zone.
He assured residents that ongoing projects, including the Ido-Eruwa Road, would be completed, with the road expected to be commissioned in December.
On the Eruwa Farm Settlement, he disclosed that the state government’s payment of ₦14.5 billion counterpart funding to the African Development Bank would resolve lingering financial constraints.
He also indicated openness to exploring the establishment of a university campus in the zone.
Broader Messages on 2027 and Traditional Institutions
Speaking after the conferment, Makinde, who is the presidential candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), declared that his 2027 ambition would not be confined to any particular region.
He said he was prepared to take his message of good governance and development to Nigerians across the country.
The governor also issued a clear warning to traditional rulers against partisan politics, stressing that monarchs who interfere in political matters should expect to be treated as politicians rather than traditional leaders.
He urged them to remain neutral and accessible to all political actors seeking their blessings.
The Eleruwa, Oba Samuel Adegbola, described the conferment as “epoch-making in the annals of Eruwa, Ibarapaland, and Oyo State.”
He praised the governor and his wife as “foremost achievers, humanists, core professionals, and excellent administrators” while appealing for accelerated completion of key projects in the area.

The renovated palace provided a fitting backdrop for the colorful Iwuye ceremony, blending tradition with contemporary governance.
