PDP Backs G-100 Coalition to Forge United Opposition Against APC in 2027
Abuja, Nigeria – September 1, 2026 — In a significant political development, the Interim National Working Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), led by Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, SAN, has formally endorsed the G-100 initiative aimed at building a broad all-opposition front to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections.
The party’s position was made public in a press statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Ini Ememobong, and released on Tuesday.
The statement framed the decision as a response to what it described as the “wailings of Nigerians groaning under the repressive Bola Tinubu APC-led Federal Government.”
A Call for Unity Amid Hardship
According to the PDP, the move is driven by the urgent need to join forces with other credible political groups in search of national “redemption.”
The party said its participation aligns with its earlier commitment to collaborate with like-minded organisations seeking to rescue the country from what it called the “many vices orchestrated by the ruling APC.”
National Chairman Kabiru Tanimu Turaki emphasised that the party’s involvement rests on clear principles.
“Our participation is anchored on the promise that the process will be hinged on the philosophical underpinnings of transparency, equality, data-driven decisions and egalitarianism,” he stated.
Any outcome from such a process, he added, would offer Nigerians credible leadership capable of addressing skyrocketing poverty and rising insecurity.
First Meeting Signals Commitment
The PDP confirmed that its representatives attended the inaugural G-100 meeting held on August 31, 2026, at the Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Centre in Abuja.
The summit brought together leaders and delegates from several opposition parties, including the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Social Democratic Party (SDP), Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), Allied Peoples Movement (APM), and others.
The gathering focused on strategies for greater cooperation, with discussions covering the possible emergence of a common presidential candidate and the creation of standing committees to guide the process.
Participants stressed the need to avoid the fragmentation that weakened the opposition in the 2023 elections.
Broader Context of Opposition Realignment
The G-100, a coalition of 100 opposition figures, has been actively engaging party leaders, former aspirants, and minority caucus members in the National Assembly in recent months.
Its organisers argue that only a united platform stands a realistic chance of unseating the incumbent APC administration in 2027.
For the Turaki-led PDP faction, the endorsement marks a concrete step toward that goal.
The party described its attendance at the first meeting as proof of readiness to contribute meaningfully to building an all-opposition platform capable of taking power and rebuilding the country for the benefit of all Nigerians.
As political manoeuvring intensifies ahead of the next general elections, this latest alignment signals a growing determination among opposition forces to close ranks.
