Bandits Kill Niger District Head Alhaji Ahmed Yusuf After Warning Against Infiltration
Minna / Agwara, Niger State – August 25, 2026 — Bandits have killed the District Head of Gallah, Alhaji Ahmed Yusuf, a respected traditional ruler under the Borgu Emirate in Niger State, in an attack on his palace that appears linked to his public stand against the gunmen.
Alhaji Ahmed Yusuf, also known as the Magaji Garin Gallah (or Magajin Garin Gallah) of Agwara Local Government Area, was reportedly targeted after he issued a direct warning to the bandits to stop infiltrating his community.
Security analyst Bakatsine first disclosed the incident on X, noting that the monarch was killed during the raid on his palace over the weekend.

The Borgu Emirate confirmed the death in a statement issued on Sunday, August 23, 2026, by Ibrahim Toriq Abubakar. The statement mourned the loss of two prominent sons of the Emirate: Alhaji Ahmed Yusuf (Magajin Garin Gallah) and Alhaji Garba Alhassan (Tafidan Borgu).
“The Borgu Emirate mourns the painful loss of two great sons and princes of the Emirate… Their passing is a great loss to their families, the traditional institution, and the entire people of Borgu,” the statement read.
The office of the Chairman of Borgu Local Government Council also confirmed the killing, describing it as “particularly painful and deeply disturbing.”
The late district head was identified as a brother of the Minister of State for Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi.
