INEC Records 1.91 Million PVCs Collected Ahead of Osun Governorship Election
Abuja / Osogbo – August 13, 2026 — The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has disclosed that 1,906,390 Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) have been collected by registered voters in Osun State ahead of the governorship election scheduled for Saturday, August 15, 2026.
The figure represents 81.50 per cent of the state’s total 2,339,233 registered voters, according to a statement issued on Thursday by Mohammed Haruna, National Commissioner and Chairman of INEC’s Information and Voter Education Committee.

- Collected PVCs: 1,906,390 (81.50%)
- Uncollected PVCs: 426,842 (18.50%) — safely deposited with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) in line with the Commission’s established practice.
- Replacement cards: 6,101 voters whose cards were damaged, defaced, or lost printed downloadable copies of their PVCs.

Readiness Assured
INEC used the announcement to reassure political parties, civil society organizations, the media, and residents of Osun State of its full readiness to conduct a free, fair, credible, transparent, and inclusive election.
The final PVC collection figures come as campaigns officially wind down and political parties make last-minute appeals to voters. With more than 1.9 million eligible voters now holding their cards, attention is shifting to turnout on election day.
Context of the Election
The Osun governorship poll is one of the key off-cycle elections of 2026. The state’s registered voter figure rose significantly following the Continuous Voter Registration exercise, increasing from about 1.95 million in previous cycles to the current 2.34 million.
While the 81.5 per cent collection rate is solid, the remaining uncollected cards highlight ongoing challenges with voter card distribution that INEC has sought to address through extended collection windows and replacement options earlier in the process.
As security agencies, party agents and election observers finalize preparations, the high number of collected PVCs offers a strong foundation for voter participation.
The real test, however, will be how many of those who collected their cards actually turn out to vote on Saturday.
