“I’ll Inspire Generations, You’ll Wait for Crumbs”: Davido Slams Bashir Ahmad

Lagos, Nigeria – August 6, 2026 — Afrobeats superstar Davido has delivered a sharp public rebuke to former presidential aide Bashir Ahmad following a heated exchange on X, telling the politician he will continue inspiring young people while Ahmad waits for the next government job “to get crumbs.”

The clash erupted against the backdrop of the forthcoming Osun State governorship election scheduled for August 15, in which Davido is actively supporting his uncle, incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke.

Bashir Ahmad, a former Special Assistant on Digital Communications to late President Muhammadu Buhari, predicted that Adeleke would lose the election to the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate.

He later took a personal swipe at Davido, writing: “We have talked enough about the number of votes I got in my primaries. Can we now talk about the number of Grammy Awards you have won from your five nominations, David? Fair is fair.”

Davido responded forcefully, dismissing the focus on awards and highlighting his global success.

“You measure success by one award. I measure it by sold-out arenas, billions of streams, global influence, and people singing my songs across continents,” the singer wrote.

The multi-award-winning artist went further, attacking Ahmad’s political record. He noted that despite years of government backing under Buhari, Ahmad failed to make significant impact in his community or secure meaningful electoral support, referencing reports that the former aide received only a handful of votes in his APC primary.

“You’re a small boy who came into politics by accident. You spent 8yrs with the ex president and couldn’t make a change in your poverty-stricken community,” Davido stated.

He concluded with the now-viral line: “We all have different trophies Bashir, I’ll keep inspiring the young ones and generations to come while you wait for the next government job to get crumbs.”

Bashir Ahmad later replied simply with “Water.”

Bashir Ahmad has faced past allegations, including claims by Peoples Gazette in 2022 that he continued drawing salaries after resigning as a presidential aide—an issue that prompted an ICPC probe at the time.

Meanwhile, Davido has been highly visible in the Osun campaign, publicly backing Adeleke and urging peaceful, free and fair polls.

The election has already generated intense political banter, with other APC figures also targeting the singer and his uncle.

The exchange has once again highlighted the growing intersection of entertainment, social media influence, and Nigerian politics, with Davido using his massive platform to defend both his artistic legacy and his family’s political ambitions.

As the August 15 Osun governorship election approaches, the public sparring between the global music star and the former presidential aide is likely to keep social media buzzing.
