LAGOS, Nigeria — In a bold and unsparing interview that has ignited fresh national debate, award-winning rapper, actor, and social commentator Folarin Falana, popularly known as Falz, has delivered one of the sharpest public takedowns of President Bola Tinubu’s administration to date.

Falz declared that Tinubu “has nothing to offer” Nigeria and described his famous campaign slogan “Emi L’okan” (“It is my turn”) as the “weirdest” he has ever heard.

Speaking on Arise Television, the outspoken entertainer questioned the administration’s spending priorities, particularly the acquisition of official vehicles and aircraft at a time when insecurity continues to plague large parts of the country.

“If you look at what has been spent on acquiring new vehicles, acquiring jets… and look at what has actually gone on with insecurity… what are your priorities?” he asked pointedly.

Falz also pushed back against comments attributed to First Lady Oluremi Tinubu suggesting that pressure on the government was excessive and that younger Nigerians and private individuals should step in to help.

“What do you mean pressure on the government? Did anyone beg you to take up this role?” he fired back, emphasizing that leadership comes with the responsibility to deliver without shifting blame.

The rapper reserved special criticism for the “Emi L’okan” slogan that became central to Tinubu’s 2023 presidential campaign.

He found the message not only strange but incompatible with the demands of governance. “I’ve never seen anything more absurd than the ‘Emi L’okan’ slogan in my entire life,” Falz stated.

He argued that anyone who campaigned on the basis of “it is my turn” should not later complain about the pressures of office, as they had actively sought the role.

Falz’s remarks come against the backdrop of persistent economic challenges, including high inflation, fuel price hikes, and widespread insecurity—issues that have dominated public discourse since Tinubu assumed office.
