LAGOS, Nigeria — In a rapid market response to escalating global energy costs, Nigerian depot owners and petroleum marketers have raised the price of diesel by approximately 3%, pushing the ex-depot price from ₦1,410 per litre on Tuesday to ₦1,450 per litre on Wednesday, July 8, 2026.

The adjustment comes as international benchmark crude prices experienced significant gains.

Brent crude climbed to $78.36 per barrel (up 5.66%), while West Texas Intermediate (WTI) rose to $74.30 per barrel (up 5.48%), driven by renewed geopolitical uncertainties in the Middle East.

This swift pass-through reflects the deregulated downstream petroleum sector’s sensitivity to global trends.

Depot owners moved quickly to align with rising import and landing costs, underscoring the interconnected nature of Nigeria’s fuel market even as local refining capacity from facilities like the Dangote Refinery continues to evolve.
