Kaduna- In a heartening display of resolve amid Nigeria’s long-running battle against banditry and terrorism, troops from Operation FANSAN YAMMA have delivered a string of operational successes across Kaduna and Zamfara states, rescuing civilians, disrupting planned assaults, and dismantling criminal networks.

The latest achievements, announced by the Nigerian Army on June 22, 2026, underscore the military’s sustained pressure on armed groups terrorizing North West communities, even as broader national security challenges persist.

Swift Rescue in Kaduna Forest

On June 18, soldiers from Sector 1 responded rapidly to intelligence about armed bandits moving through a forest in Kerawa, Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna State. Acting decisively, the troops combed the area and rescued Mrs. Bilkisu Hayatu (38), Mrs. Habibah Sadisu (30), and her one-year-old child, Abdulmutallib Sadisu.

The victims had been abducted from Kajenjere Tami Village in Birnin Yero on May 17 and were being moved toward a hideout in Birnin Gwari when the troops intervened.

The bandits fled upon sighting the advancing forces, abandoning their captives.

The rescued family received immediate medical attention at a Primary Healthcare Clinic in Kadage.

Foiled Attack and Arrests in Zamfara

In the early hours of June 20, troops from Sector 2, collaborating with other security agencies, laid a successful ambush near Gamdanda Village in Gummi Local Government Area. They engaged terrorists attempting to attack the community, forcing them to retreat in disarray.

Exploitation of the site yielded weapons, ammunition, eight motorcycles, and food supplies—key assets that severely disrupted the criminals’ mobility and logistics.

Further operations, supported by the Defence Intelligence Agency, led to the arrest of four suspected violent extremists and informants.

Another suspect, Muhammad Mamman, was apprehended due to inconsistencies in his statements. All remain in custody for investigation and prosecution.

Heavy Clashes and Sacrifice in Maru

Troops in Maru Local Government Area repelled a terrorist assault after timely reinforcements from 1 Brigade. They inflicted significant casualties, evidenced by blood trails left by fleeing attackers.

Tragically, three soldiers lost their lives in the fierce encounter, highlighting the human cost of these operations.

Additional patrols in Bakura LGA forced terrorists on motorcycles to abandon plans to attack Tudun Barade and Badamma villages, allowing troops to secure the area and protect residents.

Command’s Message of Resolve

The Theatre Commander praised the troops’ bravery and professionalism while honoring the fallen soldiers.

He reassured communities of continued offensive actions to dismantle bandit networks and urged citizens to provide timely intelligence and remain vigilant.

These operations reflect a broader strategy of intelligence-driven, proactive engagements aimed at denying terrorists freedom of movement in the North West.

While challenges remain—evident in occasional public skepticism and calls for even stronger results—the Nigerian Army continues to project determination in restoring peace.

In a region long scarred by kidnapping, ambushes, and displacement, such tactical victories offer glimmers of hope.

They remind citizens that, despite setbacks, dedicated forces are actively fighting to reclaim safety for vulnerable communities. Sustained support, intelligence sharing, and holistic approaches addressing root causes will be vital to translating these gains into lasting stability.
