Mother of Three Hacked to Death in Ido Ekiti

Ido Ekiti, Ekiti State – June 14, 2026 — A middle-aged mother of three, Mrs. Olaitan Amire, has been brutally hacked to death in Ido Ekiti, the headquarters of Ido/Osi Local Government Area.

According to a relative, Mr. Dare Akinola, who spoke with journalists at the Ido Ekiti Police Station, the incident occurred around 8 p.m. on Saturday, June 13, 2026. He said the attackers struck the victim on the head, legs, face, and other parts of her body, inflicting fatal injuries.

Mr. Akinola revealed that the deceased had narrowly escaped an attempted arson attack on her home the previous day, Friday, June 12.

A passerby raised the alarm after noticing fire at her window, preventing the apartment from being set ablaze.

“But on Saturday she was not so lucky,” he stated. “Her assailants hacked her on the head, legs, face and other parts of her body, which led to her death.”

He added that after killing her, the attackers attempted to burn her body. They reportedly covered the corpse with her clothes and other belongings and placed a container of petrol at the scene.

Police Response

The matter has been reported to the police, and two persons have been arrested for interrogation in connection with the killing.

Efforts to obtain an official statement from the Ekiti State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Sunday Abutu, were unsuccessful as his line remained unreachable at the time of filing this report.

The gruesome murder has sent shockwaves through Ido Ekiti and surrounding communities, raising fresh concerns about the safety of residents in the area. Family members and neighbours have appealed to the police to ensure a thorough investigation and bring the perpetrators to justice.
